Developing test for the potential logo design.
 |
Having the dimensions of a squash court as inspiration for the logo design. Based off of the diagram in the image. Could use the shapes as a way to develop a new typeface. |
 |
Using the angles in the squash court to influence the italic in the text. Angles of 14 and 78 degrees were used. The 14 degree was suitable for the italic, but with 78 degrees it was too dramatic and the word was no longer legible, tried using as a shadow for the regular text.
Outcome looks a bit unconsidered, the use of the angles doesn't present itself as strong as would like.
|
 |
Using a line of 14 degrees to separate the text across the centre. Using the red and blue colours as they are the colours of the court markings as well as the original logo. The outcome looks a lot like sports direct, doesn't communicate a sense of professionalism, also looks a bit like an american campaign logo, not the aesthetic I was aiming to achieve. |
 |
Having the textures of the shoes incorporated into the logo. Shoes have suade detailing so using this as a texture within the logo. Use threshold to move away from the obvious shades that come with the fabric. |
 |
Combining the previous developments with the shapes, combining the colours, texture and angles within a squash court. The end result again isn't as successful, thinking of other ways to present the shapes of a squash court within the logo design. |
 |
Using the shape of the red lines to guide the text instead of fill the text, provides a curve to the letters, due to the shape the image the letters end up on a slight angle if not placed correctly. |
What to do next:
- Experiment with the typeface, could be the thing triggering the 'sports direct' appearance of the logo. Think back to the heritage and look at the typefaces used for the past.
- Use boxes to create a modular logotype.
- Experiment more with a different colour palette or be selective with the colour red/blue used.
Thoughts on Current Work:
- The designs made are to simple.
- Don't communicate to a younger audience.
- Need to make more specific to the age group, think about whats popular currently within the "retro" look of the shoes.
- Need to research into the genre more.
