Proposal Session 7.11.19

Think about your word/s
How do they relate? Can they relate?
Is there a key question to aid the module?

Is the aim to target a wide audience, or a specific audience?
Triangulate findings to build a discussion or an argument.

Research Task into Sustainability
Sustainability:
- the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level.
- avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.

Wanting to look at whether the sustainability movement is sustainable in itself.
Is sustainable graphic design actually sustainable?

'This recognition that the unsustainability of present day societies and institutions is a global crisis is central to the sustainability movement.' - Robert Gilman

Design as Politics - Tony Fry:
'in the face of the unsustainable state of the world, what can political activists and designers do?'
This book is looking at the relationship between design and politics as well as highlighting the unsustainable state of the globe.

Trespassers - Ed van Hinte and Conny Bakker:
The words 'sustainability' and 'environment' have been made synonymous with bad news, and guilt. This book is looking at the way of presenting sustainability in a way that makes information about the environment true but amazing instead of seeming daunting. It presents simple fixes to help the sustainability movement along.

Designing Sustainable Packaging:
This book is all about advising designers on how to make packaging more sustainable by re-envisioning it.

From Crit:
Eco products becoming a USP.
How to design packaging and eco products so people can find them easier.
eg free range, people buy because the alternative is negative.

How the packaging of products affects the consumer. Why does eco design have to be earthy, why can't it just been "good design".

How to reduce the effort to be eco?
- awareness of eco products
- awareness of price
- how to alter us from being creatures of habit, is this possible?

Study Task:
  1. Write up your proposal using the prompts 250 words.
  1. Propose 3 possible directions to take your design work.
  1. Try to link your design ideas with the reading you have done - justify it.
Put this on your blog.
Bring your proposal and 3 ideas to next week’s session.
